According to OHCHR Women’s sexual and reproductive health is related to multiple human rights, including the right to life, the right to be free from torture, the right to health, the right to privacy, the right to education, and the prohibition of discrimination. According to Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW, 1979) “women’s right to health includes their sexual and reproductive health”.
Climate change impacts disrupt access to Family Planning and SRHR services, thus these services are rendered inaccessible during the occurrence of climate-related disasters such as floods and drought.
The violation of SRHR takes many forms such as the denial of access to services that only women and adolescents require, poor quality services, subjecting women and adolescent’s access to services to third-party authorizations, forced abortion, female genital mutilation (FGM) and early marriage.
Her Dream Initiative seeks to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), advocate for climate justice, and empower women, youth, and adolescent girls including young mothers economically in the rural areas of Morogoro. Through our people-centered approach, we aim to work with adolescents, youth, and women in the communities to come up with solutions on how to improve SRHR services, move towards climate justice, and become more economically self-sufficient.
